A 15-year-old boy from Winnipeg is facing charges in an overseas sextortion investigation.
The teenager is accused up uploading sexual abuse imagery of a Belgian girl to a social media platform last year.
The Winnipeg Police Service alleges the accused met the girl, whose age police did not reveal, online. The two never met in person.
“During the online contact which lasted approximately one year, the female was coerced to send intimate images of herself to the accused. He posted the images online without her consent,” the WPS says.
Between Oct. 4 and Nov. 30, 2025, police say the girl was extorted by the accused, who demanded money in order to stop posting the images online. The girl reported it to police in Belgium “and was assisted in having the images removed.”
The WPS was first notified in October, and investigators identified a suspect address in the Point Douglas neighbourhood.
On Jan. 8, a search warrant was executed, and a 15-year-old was taken into custody. A police dog helped locate digital storage devices, the WPS says.
The teen was charged with extortion, criminal harassment, accessing child sexual abuse material and more. He was released with numerous conditions.
