Suspect attacks 3 women on Winnipeg Skywalk system, police say

Winnipeg police say a man has been charged in connection with three random attacks on women walking to work through the Winnipeg Skywalk system last week.

The Winnipeg Police Service says the alleged attacks happened on Thursday between 6:30 a.m. and 6:45 a.m.

At 6:30 a.m., police say a woman was walking through the Millennium Library Skywalk when a man grabbed her and tried removing her backpack. Police say she yelled at the man and he fled.

Later, police say a second woman was walking along the Graham Avenue Skywalk when a man yelled obscenities and pushed her against a railing before feeling.

Shortly after that, also on the Graham Avenue Skywalk, police say a woman was confronted by a man who threatened to stab her. He allegedly slapped a coffee cup out of her hand, then picked it up and threw it at her. Police say he then pushed her. The woman defended herself and the man fled.

Authorities say they identified a suspect around 7:30 a.m. in the Skywalk near St. Mary Avenue.

Randy Herman, 40, was charged with robbery, assault, assault with a weapon and uttering threats. He was detained in custody.

The allegations have not been tested in court.
