Winnipeg man arrested for fast food robbery

Winnipeg police (WPS) arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with a fast food robbery on Thursday.

WPS said the man allegedly robbed a fast food restaurant 1500 block of Portage Avenue after demanding money and threatened to shoot the employee of the restaurant.

“The three employees ran to safety and the suspect circled around the counter and unsuccessfully attempted to open the cash register. He then entered the kitchen, and stole hamburgers and fries that were still cooking in frying pans,” WPS said in a statement.

The suspect Jonathan Fontaine allegedly took a transit bus where he fought other passengers as he ate the food.

Police arrested the suspect Fontaine around 2:45 p.m. when the bus stopped shortly after he boarded it.

No injuries were reported.

Fontaine is in police custody. He was charged with robbery and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The allegations have yet to be proved in court.
