Winnipeg firefighters respond to 4 fires

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WPFS) responded to four fires in the last 24 hours.

Lakepointe Road fire

Firefighters responded to a report of a fire at 4:57 p.m. Wednesday, in a single-family bungalow on Lakepointe Road. When crews arrived, they discovered a chimney fire and contained it half an hour later.

All occupants of the house safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews.

No injuries were reported. Damage estimates were not available.

McGregor Street fires

WPFS also responded to two fires within 24 hours apart at vacant commercial building in the 200 block of McGregor Street.

Firefighters were alerted to the first fire at 6:36 p.m. Wednesday. Upon their arrival, crews saw smoke and flames coming from the building which were contained by 7:30 p.m. Crews searched the building and confirmed no one was inside. No injuries were reported.

A fire watch was setup and cancelled at 5 a.m. Wednesday after no hot spots were found overnight.

However, WPFS was called about a second fire at 12:47 p.m. Wednesday and was contained by 1:12 p.m. No injuries were reported.

Both fires are under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.

Alexander Avenue fire

WFPS crews were called at 3:45 a.m. Wednesday about a fire in a vacant one-and-a-half-storey house in the 1200 block of Alexander Avenue.

When crews arrived, they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the house.

Firefighters brought the fire under control at 5:29 a.m.

Firefighters searched the house and confirmed no one was inside. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not yet available.
