Man charged after allegedly breaking into Winnipeg church

Winnipeg police say a 44-year-old man has been charged with breaking into a church over the weekend.

WPS responded to a report of a break-in at a church along Ellice Avenue near Minto Street around 10:30 p.m. When officers arrived, they noted a broken basement window and found a damaged donation box inside the church.

Around 11:30 p.m., officers were able to find a man along Dominion Street who was believed to have been connected to the break-in.

Police say 44-year-old Nicholas Richard Grandbois was taken into custody without incident, and at the time, officers found an undisclosed amount of money which was seized as evidence.

Grandbois has since been charged with break enter and theft. Police also note that he was wanted for failing to attend court.
