Man facing charges after alleged assault in Winnipeg gas station

Winnipeg police say a 28-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly assaulting a 61-year-old man at a gas station earlier this month.

WPS says around 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 2, a 28-year-old man and a woman reportedly went to a gas station along Lagimodière Boulevard near the Trans-Canada Highway in a 2024 Chevrolet Trax.

Reports indicate that as they exited the vehicle, they were arguing with each other, and the woman re-entered the vehicle. Following this, she reportedly reversed into the passenger side of a 2010 Honda Civic that was in the process of being refueled.

The owner of the Civic, a 61-year-old man, then went inside the store and called police to report the collision. While he was doing so, the 28-year-old man reportedly followed him into the store and allegedly physically assaulted him and rendering him unconscious.

The 61-year-old was taken to hospital in stable condition and will reportedly require multiple surgeries for the injuries he suffered.

Police were able to identify the 28-year-old and he was taken into custody just before 9 p.m. on Nov. 23.

He is facing charges of mischief under $5,000 and aggravated assault. He was released from custody with an Undertaking and is expected to appear in court at a later date.
