While nobody expects their vehicle to be stolen, but leaving AirPods inside could act as a possible tracking tool, as one Winnipegger found out recently.
The Winnipeg Police Service says Tuesday around 9:30 p.m., patrol officers, along with a police helicopter and drone, located a 2020 Ford F150 Supercrew, which had just been reported stolen.
Half an hour prior to the vehicle being located, police say the F150 had been left running and unattended near Portage Avenue and Roseberry Street. This led to the truck being stolen by an unknown man.
The truck’s owner contacted police to report the theft and informed WPS that he was tracking a pair of AirPods that had been left inside the truck.
This led to the helicopter searching the area, and the truck was found in a surface parking lot along William Avenue.
Officers went to the parking lot, where they found a man and a woman inside the vehicle. Both were taken into custody.
Police say a 41-year-old man is facing a charge of possession of property obtained by a crime over $5,000, and has been released with an appearance notice.
The 39-year-old woman, who was also taken into custody, was released with no charges.
