2 officers injured after trying to arrest man with knife: Winnipeg police

Winnipeg police say two officers were injured while trying to take a man into custody Wednesday evening.

Just after 5 p.m. on Nov. 12, officers responded to a short-term rental unit along Bonaventure Drive after receiving a report of a domestic incident. Reports also indicated that the man was acting erratically.

When officers arrived at the scene, they were met by a woman who confirmed her well-being before the officers entered the home.

The man, who was later identified as 30-year-old Rueben Taylor Winter, was found hiding in the basement, and as the officers tried to speak to him, he reportedly pulled out a knife and lunged towards them.

The officers were able to get Winter under control and used a taser, which caused him to drop the knife. He was taken into custody and was medically cleared by paramedics after suffering minor injuries.

Both police officers were taken to hospital for serious injuries. They have since been released and are expected to make full recoveries.

Winter has since been charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon.
