Winnipeg police, RCMP charge man after fingerprints found in stolen vehicle

Winnipeg police and Manitoba RCMP have charged a 31-year-old man after evidence from a stolen vehicle led to his identity being uncovered.

WPS says around Apr. 2, a 2014 Honda Accord Touring had been stolen from a home along Hull Avenue. The vehicle was later recovered on May 23, along Kingfisher Crescent.

Following this, forensic investigators searched the vehicle and were able to collect fingerprints. Those fingerprints were sent for analysis, and police were able to identify 31-year-old Richard Scott Rayland as the suspect.

On Nov. 5, the Manitoba Integrated Violent Offender Apprehension Unit took Rayland into custody at a home along Garry Street.

Investigators also reportedly learned that ten warrants had been issued by WPS and RCMP between Jan. 8 and Oct. 22, in connection to various property crime-related offences.

Since, WPS have charged Rayland with two counts of possession of property obtained by a crime over $5,000, possession of a property obtained by a crime under $5,000, trafficking in property obtained by a crime over $5,000, breaking and entering, theft over $5,000, theft under $5,000, failing to comply with a probation order, and 12 counts of failing to comply with a release order.

Additionally, Selkirk RCMP have charged Rayland with three counts of possession of property obtained by a crime and failing to comply with a release order.

Lastly, Oakbank RCMP has charged Rayland with possession of property obtained by a crime and failing to attend court.
