Police begin 24/7 patrol at HSC adult emergency department

The Health Sciences Centre adult emergency department now officially has 24-hour on-site police presence, to heighten security for staff, patients, and visitors, the Province announced this week.

The new measures, which began on November 1st, are a joint effort from the Winnipeg Police, the provincial government, and Shared Health.  Moving forward, two uniformed WPS officers will always be patrolling the HSC and emergency department, working in collaboration with Institutional Safety Officers and Shared Health security teams.

As part of the announcement, Minister of Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care Uzoma Asagwara said, “There’s more work to do, but when we make hospitals safer, it helps everyone. That’s how we build a stronger, more stable workforce, and a better environment for patients.”
