Tessa Blaikie Whitecloud, senior advisor to Premier Wab Kinew on ending chronic homelessness in the province, resigned from her position after only 10 months on the job.
On Friday, Kinew addressed a personnel change in the Your Way Home Initiative.
“To see her move to the Collaborative Housing Alliance Real Estate Investment Trust (CHAREIT) full time I think gives me confidence that you’re going to have that crucial part of the equation, getting more housing units built, and we’ve got a really capable hand at the wheel there,” Kinew said.
“I would love if Tessa had continued to work with us going forward but to see her at a partner organization still working in alignment in common cause to getting people out of tents and into housing units is a positive development too,” he added.
Blaikie Whitecloud announced earlier this week that she was leaving her position to become the CEO of CHAREIT.
She was hired by the province in January to lead the Your Way Home project, the provincial plan to end homelessness by bringing people from encampments into social housing units.
