Dozens attend FortWhyte Alive’s annual bison walk celebrating U.S. National Bison Day

Dozens attended the annual bison walk event at FortWhyte Alive wildlife preserve Saturday.

The marquee event offered participants a chance to view and learn about one of North America’s iconic animals.

Staff and volunteers led people up our north trail system to see the bison.

“We do this so we can learn about them, educate the public on them, and just remember how they were, and are still such an important part of the prairie eco system here in the prairies and in Fort Whyte as well,” said Melissa Wiens, program coordinator of the preserve.

The annual event is in celebration of National Bison Day in the U.S., which is also recognized in much of Canada.
