A 19-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly committing a number of violent sexual assaults on women involved in sex work.
According to Winnipeg police, the first assault took place in April, when a man arranged to meet a female sex worker but allegedly sexually assaulted her at gunpoint. The woman was taken to hospital for treatment, while the suspect fled the area and was not identified at the time.
A similar incident occurred two weeks later in May, when a woman involved in sex work was sexually assaulted and robbed of her cell phone at knifepoint. She was hospitalized, and the suspect was identified through investigation, despite fleeing the area.
The third incident took place in October, when another female sex worker was allegedly sexually assaulted and taken to hospital, with the man once again fleeing the area.
Just over a week later, police arrested 19-year-old Mohammed Al-Samraei, charging him with two counts of armed sexual assault as well as numerous other sexual assault and weapons-related charges.
