Winnipeg police say a 27-year-old man threw a water bottle at a child who was playing near a park in the city’s Centennial neighbourhood on Wednesday afternoon.
The Winnipeg Police Service alleges the man then chased the boy down the street screaming at him. The boy was not physically injured, they say.
The child was playing with others by a park around 2:30 p.m. – at Pacific and Ellen – where an encampment was set up, according to police.
Authorities say the group of children ran away and told a parent. “The parent managed to take a photo of the suspect and contacted police,” WPS wrote in a news release.
The suspect was found at the encampment and taken into custody, police say. The man was charged with assault with a weapon and detained in custody.
