One Manitoba rescue is transforming lives, one dog at a time

Back to Pack Rescue is trying to give some of the most challenging dogs in Manitoba a new lease on life. Andrew Din and his family work with one dog at a time to prevent re-homing by building confidence through obedience work, socialization, and fear-free training.

“There comes a point when you can’t close your eyes anymore, and you have to do something. So, we’ve rescued dogs from the dumps, picked them up, and it’s amazing they just come right into the truck,” Din explained.

One of those dogs is Morty, a pup who’s come a long way since he first arrived at the rescue.

“Morty was barking at us for the first week, and then after that first week, he started to warm up to us, and he adjusted.”

After weeks of care and consistent training, he’s grown into a happy, confident dog who’s finally ready for his forever family, and thanks to a post on Social media, Morty has a better chance than ever to find a home.

“We struggled for the past month to find him a home, and people actually, within two days I have 10 people lined up, and now he is going to get the home he deserves,” said Din.

Din says Morty’s story is proof that while some dogs come with challenges, those problems can be fixed with patience and the right approach. However, Din says there are hundreds of dogs just like Morty in need, and he is calling out to all Manitobans to reduce the stigma around challenging dogs, with the help of professionals.

“We can work together as a community, and we can get these dogs to stay in these homes because they’re overflowing right now and there are dogs suffering,” Din explained.

“We should be so thankful we have this turkey dinner and everything is great, but there is a dog that needs our help in the shelter, so please go down to your local shelter, take a dog, and try. We will guide you through it, but we all need help.”
