Man charged after a woman was allegedly assaulted in a Winnipeg apartment building

Winnipeg police say an 18-year-old man has been charged with allegedly assaulting a woman over the weekend.

WPS says around 10:20 p.m., they received a report that a woman had been followed into her apartment building by a man, who then allegedly grabbed her in a sexual manner, before allegedly punching her and fleeing.

The woman reportedly suffered minor injuries but did not require additional medical attention.

As officers arrived at the apartment building on Mandalay Drive, they found the man believed to be responsible standing in front of the apartment building and took him into custody.

Police believe that the incident was random and unprovoked, noting that the woman and man did not know each other prior.

WPS has since charged 18-year-old Malachi Christian Bittern with sexual assault, assault causing bodily harm, and three breaches of a release order.
