27-year-old facing charges after road rage incident: Winnipeg police

Winnipeg police say a road rage incident led to a 27-year-old facing charges.

WPS says around 2:20 p.m. on Sept. 27, officers conducted a traffic stop on a 2015 Audi A4 near Fort Street and York Avenue.

Police say they received multiple reports of a road rage incident involving the Audi near Broadway Avenue and Donald Street.

During the traffic stop, officers took a 27-year-old who was driving the Audi into custody.

Additionally, the officers were able to find and seize a 12-inch hunting knife and sheath, brass knuckles, around 16 grams of crack cocaine, cell phones and around $1,100 in cash.

During a subsequent investigation, officers learned that the driver of the Audi and a 35-year-old driver of a 2018 Infiniti Q50 were involved in a road rage incident where both men reportedly exited their vehicles and had a verbal dispute.

That dispute reportedly escalated to a point where the 27-year-old allegedly punched the 35-year-old multiple times, before going to his vehicle and getting brass knuckles and allegedly continued the assault. Following this, it is believed that he then hit the Infinity before fleeing the scene.

Police say the driver of the Infinity suffered injuries, but did not require medical attention.

WPS says the 27-year-old is facing charges of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon, possession of a scheduled substance, possession of proceeds obtained by a crime under $5,000, and mischief under $5,000.

The Audi was also seized by police and multiple Provincial Offence Act notices were also issued as the driver reportedly did not have a valid driver’s license.
