2 facing charges for allegedly trafficking fentanyl in Winnipeg

Winnipeg police say two people are facing charges for allegedly trafficking fentanyl in the West Broadway neighbourhood.

WPS says on Sept. 24, officers took a man and a woman into custody in connection to an investigation.

Searching the man, officers were able to find and seize 38 grams of fentanyl, which they say has an estimated street value of $15,080.

Following this, a search warrant was executed at a suite in an apartment complex along Furby Street. During the search, officers were able to find and seize the following:

  • 134 grams of fentanyl with an estimated street value of $53,600
  • Five grams of unprocessed fentanyl with an estimated street value of $200,000
  • Mixing/Cutting agent
  • Taser with six cartridges
  • Pepper Spray
  • $235 in Canadian currency
  • Rubber moulds
  • Scales
  • Drug packaging and other drug paraphernalia

“Five grams of unprocessed fentanyl has the potential to create 5,000 doses of street level fentanyl once a mixing/cutting agent is added. As little as two micrograms of fentanyl or the equivalent of two grains of salt is considered a lethal dose,” said WPS in a statement.

Police say a 39-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman are facing charges of drug trafficking, weapons, and firearms-related offences. Both have since been released on undertakings.

WPS is warning that if anyone comes across similar items, they should not touch them and contact the WPS non-emergency line at 204-986-6222.
