Winnipeg police say two foster parents are facing charges after allegedly abusing children in their care.
WPS says during the early evening of Sept. 19, officers responded to a report of a child suffering from injuries at a home in the north part of the city.
The child was reportedly taken to hospital in critical condition and sustained life-altering injuries.
Police report that three other children were also taken to hospital for medical assessment. One of the three showed signs of being assaulted and was in stable condition.
The WPS child abuse unit took over the investigation and learned that between Sept. 17 and 18, the child who was critically injured did not receive immediate medical attention.
Police have since taken a 25-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man into custody.
The woman has been charged with aggravated assault, assault, and failing to provide the necessaries of life. The man is facing charges of failing to provide the necessaries of life.
Police say they are not releasing the names of the accused to protect the identity of the children.
