Stolen Dodge Ram damages two police vehicles during failed flee attempt in Winnipeg

A stolen Dodge Ram 1500 damaged two police vehicles early Saturday morning during an attempted escape.

At 1:16 a.m., Winnipeg police observed a stolen 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 with Alberta plates travelling northbound on Sherbrook Street at Ellice Ave.

Officers followed the stolen vehicle from a distance while several other units flooded the area. Police say they used a safe window of opportunity to box the vehicle in at the intersection of Ellice Avenue and Smith Street. The containment was successful, and the driver was arrested without further incident.

The 28-year-old driver is now facing charges related to driving prohibitions, flight from peace officer, and possession of criminal property.

When they identified the driver, they learned that the driver had two lifetime driving prohibitions.

The suspect was detained in custody.
