Freedom and Happy are two of the 10 dogs recently rescued from a testing lab in the United States and brought to Manitoba by The Beagle Alliance. All 10 of the dogs will be in foster care by week’s end.
“We worked with our rescue partner in Wyoming, Kindness Ranch, and as well we got an opportunity to meet our training partner that we work with Chelsey Marino, we had a chance to work with the dogs with her, so we stayed a little bit longer this time and hung out with the 10 dogs, and yesterday crossed the border into Manitoba,” said Lori Cohen, the founder and executive director of The Beagle Alliance.
The organization, which has rescued over 100 beagles to date, immediately began the careful vetting process of selecting loving foster homes for a 30-day trial period before permanent adoption.
“Last night we met with six fosters that came to my property in Manitoba to pick their dogs up, and hopefully end up adopting, and tomorrow one of our fabulous volunteers is going to drive the other four to our rescue partner ‘Barks Rescue’ in Calgary, and we have fosters waiting for them,” said Cohen.
Patricia Reid and Gary Cornelius are in Winnipeg and are first-time fosters with The Beagle Alliance. Despite only having had Ernie for 24 hours, they say they’re already in love. And if all goes well, they intend to adopt him permanently.
“We just so dearly wanted another beagle, and we couldn’t find any pups in Winnipeg, so here we are, with our little guy named Ernie,” said Reid and Cornelius.
“It’s just been incredible, and wouldn’t you say that he’s learning incredibly fast?” asked Reid.
Cornelius says, “Yes, he’s very quick, and he’s very loving, he’s been stuck to my side ever since he got here.”
Reid adds, “Yeah, it’s really been a wonderful experience.”
Cohen says The Beagle Alliance will be right back at it with yet another rescue, bringing 10 more dogs out of testing labs next month.
