Police watchdog looking into death of Hollow Water First Nation stabbing suspect

Manitoba’s police watchdog — the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) — says it’s investigating the death of the man who stabbed eight people in Hollow Water First Nation on Thursday.

The IIU was notified of the incident by RCMP shortly after it happened.

The report to the IIU stated “an adult male was involved as a suspect in a serious incident that had taken place in Hollow Water First Nation.  The male reportedly stole a vehicle and fled the community at a high rate of speed on PR 304, just south of Hollow Water First Nation, when he collided with a police vehicle, injuring a police officer.”

The man was declared dead at the scene.

Due to the nature of the matter, the IIU was contacted and has opened an investigation.

Anyone who might have any information is asked to contact the IIU at 1-844-667-6060.
