Winnipeg police are waning the public about possible scammers who are wrongly identifying themselves as members of the Winnipeg Police Service.
The WPS says it received several reports from people on Monday who were contacted by telephone by individuals saying they were with the Winnipeg police.
Call display incorrectly showed the calls were coming from the WPS non-emergency number 204-986-6222.
Those reports came in from Ontario, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia.
“The callers’ motives remain unclear at this time; however, in a few of the incidents, a request was made for personal information,” police said in a news release.
Authorities say no law enforcement agency would ever call members of the public and request personal information or funds.
“Do not disclose any personal information about bank accounts, identification numbers, credit cards, or personal finances to anyone.”
