Winnipeg has selected developers for 5 projects aimed at building affordable housing

The City of Winnipeg has selected developers to build affordable housing on five City-owned properties, with the goal of building hundreds of new units, of which nearly a third will be affordable.
“We’re turning underused city land like this into housing that serves the needs of our community,” said Mayor Scott Gillingham.
“Together, these projects will deliver over 700 new homes, including more than 270 affordable units across Winnipeg.”
The projects, which are a part of the federal government’s housing accelerator fund, are located on Tache Avenue, Osborne Street, Pembina Highway, and two on Watt Street.
With the site of Monday’s presser, the future home of a 65-unit, mixed-income apartment building with on-site disability support services offered in partnership with CoHabit.
“A personal care home should not be the only option to access support for young people with significant physical disabilities. They, like all of u,s deserve choices,” said Margy Nelson, the special projects director of CoHabit.
Construction on the facility on Tache is set to begin within the next year.
