Manitoba corrections officer accused of sexually assaulting 2 inmates

A Manitoba corrections officer has been arrested in connection with the sexual assaults of two inmates this past winter.

The Winnipeg Police Service says the alleged assaults took place while the men were receiving medical treatment at a Winnipeg hospital.

Police say they received several reports, and the force’s sex crimes unit arrested the officer on July 16.

The first alleged incident took place in December 2024. Police say the inmate was under the guard of two correctional officers while receiving treatment.

“When one of the officers temporarily left the room, the man was sexually assaulted with a weapon by the other correctional officer,” the WPS alleges in a news release. “He was injured but did not report the incident until a later date.”

The second alleged incident took place the following month and was similar to the first. Police say the inmate was not physically injured and did not report the incident until a later date.

A 37-year-old is facing charges of sexual assault and sexual assault with a weapon. The allegations have not been tested in court.
