Air quality in Winnipeg improved but remains unhealthy, vulnerable groups at risk

As wildfires keep raging throughout Manitoba, air quality warning remains in effect. Environment Canada has given it a 10+ risk index, which is the highest possible level.

It is expected to drop down to an 8 on Sunday night, and further down to a 5 on Monday, still posing moderate risk to vulnerable groups, such as children, the elderly, pregnant people and those with cardiac and pulmonary diseases.

The general public should avoid outdoor and strenuous activities. When indoors, keep windows and doors closed as much as possible. When there is an extreme heat event occurring with poor air quality, prioritize keeping cool. If you must spend time outdoors, limit the time as much as possible.

Environment Canada also urges Winnipeg residents to check in on others who are in your care or live nearby who may be more likely to be impacted by outdoor air pollution.
