There were plenty of tails wagging with joy behind the Whyte Ridge Community Centre as the City of Winnipeg unveiled a brand new off-leash dog area.
The new, four-season park – located behind 170 Fleetwood Road – replaces a seasonal pen previously operated by the community centre in an outdoor hockey rink.
“Dog parks like this one are more than just open spaces and balls to chase; they’re about community,” said Janice Lukes, Councillor for Waverley West.
“When we bring out dogs here, we’re not just giving them a place to play, we’re giving ourselves a chance to meet the neighbours, build friendships, and connect with others who have the same love and respect for our four-legged companions.”
The grass area features seating areas, sealed pet waste containers, and a gated entry. The $80,000 project was funded through the city’s land dedication reserve fund.
