Garden Hill First Nation and Snow Lake remain under evacuation order

The town of Snow Lake remains under a mandatory evacuation order.

The community is in danger from two wildfires, one to the northeast near Osborne Lake and over 7,000 hectares, and the second one to the southwest near Cook Lake and 15 thousand hectares.

Garden Hill First Nation also remains under evacuation order due to a wildfire, which is currently 2,500 hectares and is considered out of control.

The fire threatening the community of Cross Lake is over 160,000 hectares, but there is no evacuation order for the community yet.

Meanwhile, wildfire activity remains low north of Thompson, even though there’s a blaze covering over 16,000 hectares.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, the City of Thompson said that light winds, low temperatures, rain, and higher humidity have bought fire crews additional time to establish more defences, and there is currently no evacuation order for Thompson.
