IIU looking into use-of-force incident by Brandon police during arrest

Manitoba’s police watchdog is looking into a use-of-force incident regarding an arrest made by Brandon police.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU), says they were notified of the incident — which happened on June 10 — on Wednesday.

It is believed that around 1:15 p.m. on June 10, BPS officers responded to a report that a man had an edged weapon and was acting erratically.

Officers attended the scene and found a teen with a weapon.

This reportedly led to a use-of-force incident, where one officer used a conducted energy weapon, and the teen was taken into custody.

The IIU says that while the teen was in custody, a second use-of-force incident reportedly occurred, which led to the teen needing to be taken to a hospital.

Due to the injuries, the IIU was notified of the incident and has begun an investigation.

If anyone has any information, they are asked to contact investigators at 1-844-667-6060.
