Winnipeg woman traumatized after random stabbing in Osborne Village

A Winnipeg woman who was randomly beaten and stabbed on her way home from work is speaking out. Police have arrested a 17-year-old girl in connection with the case, and the victim is hoping the others are caught soon.

A Winnipeg woman says she’s been left terrified and traumatized after being randomly attacked and stabbed while walking home earlier this week.

The victim, who goes by Tanpreet, has asked to remain partially anonymous out of fear for her safety.

The incident occurred around midnight Sunday in Osborne Village. Tanpreet says she was walking home from work when she sensed someone behind her.

“When I looked back, I was suddenly on the ground,” she said. “There were around two or three people—they pushed me, and they stabbed me multiple times in my back and even in my eye.”

She says the attackers demanded her phone and ID, which she handed over before losing consciousness. Bystanders quickly intervened and called 911.

Tanpreet later woke up in an ambulance.

“I was in pain—my wounds were open, I was covered in blood. I didn’t think I was going to live,” she recalled.

She has since undergone multiple surgeries and remains in shock. Doctors are unsure whether her injured eye will fully recover.

Meanwhile, Tanpreet’s brother Rajwand says they’ve been struggling to get information about the case. Despite visiting the police station in person and making follow-up calls, they have yet to hear from the lead detective.

“We didn’t get any solid information,” said Rajwand. “We’re just hoping to get justice.”

A Winnipeg police spokesperson said they were not aware of the specific situation but emphasized that detectives aim to be accessible and will follow up.

“The people who hurt me are still out there,” said Tanpreet.

Police have arrested one 17-year-old girl in connection with the case. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone with information or surveillance footage to contact them.
