Winnipeg police say a 33-year-old man has been charged in connection to a crime spree that was happening in the city.
WPS says between May 27 and May 30, personal property was stolen from a home along Desautels Street; a 2015 Jeep Wrangler was stolen from a home along Westchester Drive; and a stolen credit card was used to make a purchase at a store along St. Mary’s Road.
On May 31, police reportedly noticed the Jeep parked in a lot off St. Matthews Avenue. However, the driver reportedly escaped after ramming into a police vehicle and fleeing at high speeds.
Around 1:15 a.m. on June 1, while officers were conducting proactive policing in the Weston area, officers noticed the Jeep. Following this, the driver fled in the Jeep, driving at high speeds, down sidewalks, green spaces, and the wrong way on a street.
Officers were able to successfully use a tire deflation device, catch the driver, and take him into custody.
Since, 33-year-old Kevin Marchall Dejonckheere was charged with seven crimes relating to driving, fraud, property crime, and assault.
