Pride parade in Winnipeg calls to ‘Rise in Pride, Stand in Strength’

The Winnipeg Pride Parade took over downtown Winnipeg on Sunday, bringing together people who support or identify with the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

The festivities began with a rally at the Legislative building, followed by the parade, which went down Memorial Boulevard, Portage Avenue, Main Street, and William Stevenson Parkway.

The theme of this year’s event is ‘Rise in Pride, Stand in Strength’, calling the public to celebrate both resistance and joy. Winnipegers were invited to experience art and live music shows, queer film festivals, local artisans and food vendors.

On Thursday, ahead of the Pride Parade, the Manitoba government announced additional 2.5 million dollars in funding to Place of Pride — the province’s first 2SLGBTQ+ campus, bringing the total commitment to the project to 5.5 million dollars. This will allow the construction of the 12,000-square-foot Place of Pride community hub to begin this fall.
