Winnipeg man killed in weekend hit and run

Winnipeg police say a 49-year-old man has died from injuries sustained in a hit-and-run collision over the weekend.
WPS and WFPS responded to a report of a hit and run of a pedestrian around 7:10 a.m. on Saturday, near Redwood Avenue and Charles Street.
A 49-year-old man was found at the scene suffering from injuries that paramedics say were consistent with being hit by a vehicle. He was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
The man later died from his injuries. He has been identified by police as Kurt Fabian Paupanekis.
WPS officers found, in an alley nearby, a rental moving van that was reported stolen and is believed to be linked to the hit and run. Police however note that the driver and occupants of the van had fled the area before they arrived.
