Convicted sex offender with history of violence to live in Winnipeg after release from prison

Winnipeg police are warning that a convicted long-term offender considered high risk to re-offend in a sexually violent manner against women and girls was released from prison Thursday.
Charles Henry Desjarlais, 62, was released on statutory release from Stony Mountain Institution after serving a portion of his sentence for his March 8, 2019, conviction of sexual assault with a weapon. He received a 10-year sentence followed by a long-term supervision order until Nov. 14, 2039.
Desjarlais, who has a history of violent offending, is expected to live in Winnipeg.
In 1982, he was convicted of rape, armed robbery and theft over $200. He received a total sentence of 16 years.
In April 2002, he was convicted of sexual interference and uttering threats and sentenced to four years and six months.
In February 2003, he was convicted of sexual assault and received an additional seven-year sentence to be served consecutively to the 2002 sentence.
In May 2016, he was convicted of sexual assault and sentenced to three years and six months.
