Eight children were hospitalized with minor injuries in a collision involving their school bus and a tractor Tuesday morning in the RM of Grey, southwest of Winnipeg.

Treherne RCMP say it happened near the intersection of Road 37 West and Road 43 North around 9 a.m.

Investigators believe the tractor was collecting debris along Road 37 when it was rear-ended by the school bus. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor. A grader that was pushing debris ahead of the tractor was not involved in the collision.

The school bus was transporting 31 children to school in the Prairie Spirit School Division. Eight of them were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries.

Both drivers involved in the collision were taken to hospital as a precaution.

Police say Emergency Medical Services were already attending to the children when officers arrived on scene.

Treherne RCMP along with Manitoba RCMP criminal collision investigative team continue to investigate.
