“Bee Boyzz” is a Manitoba Honey producer with 100 per cent natural products. With the recent push to buy Canadian, the many environmental benefits, and the declining bee population, now is as good a time as any to support your local honey producers.
“A lot of the world’s honey is produced in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and we thrive on being some of the best honey that’s produced,” said Kon Paseschnikoff, the owner of Bee Boyzz.
“With the cost of things going up, and the carbon footprint of bringing in products from other provinces and the states, especially in the states. When I see U.S honey on the shelfs I kinda scratch my head when we have so many local producers out here.
Paseschnikoff says bees are essential for the strength of ecosystems and pollinating crops on neighbouring farms.
“I had a recent farmer tell me a couple years ago, how far to bees fly, I said about two miles, he said actually two and a half because I was getting my best yields at under the two and a half mile range, after that the yields weren’t there, so yes they support the ecosystem, they do a lot of pollination,” said Paseschnikoff.
With the bee population facing a major decline due to various things like pesticides and parasitic mites, it makes it that much more difficult for businesses like Bee Boyzz to stay afloat.
“What we did this year doesn’t mean it’s going to work next year. They are fighting what I feel is a lot of environmental challenges.”
Paseschnikoff says you can help at home planting just a few flowers each spring, goes a long way.
“There’s 200 species of bees in Manitoba, and not all of them are honey bees; there are bumble bees, solitary bees. They all need our help. They help us, we help them.”
