By CityNews Staff

Winnipeg police say a 33-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly stealing a vehicle Thursday morning.

WPS says officers responded to a store near McGregor Street and Partridge Avenue after receiving a report that a vehicle had been stolen from the area.

Officers attended the area and noticed a 2018 Buick Encore leaving a parking lot before driving down Leila Avenue at high speeds.

Air 1 was called in to assist, and the Buick was found at a home along Gateside Way.

Police say a man was found a short time later in the area and was taken into custody. While in custody, the man also reportedly gave officers a fake name.

WPS says the 33-year-old man is facing charges of theft of a motor vehicle, identity fraud, dangerous driving, and four counts of failing to comply with conditions of a release order.
