Starting May 1st, Manitoba will be rolling out a COVID-19 vaccination campaign for high-risk groups, recommending that people get vaccinated before the summer.
Until June 30th, adults 65 and up, Indigenous people over the age of 45, residents of long-term care homes, and immunocompromised individuals aged 6 months and up, will be eligible to receive an additional COVID-19 vaccine dose, as long as it’s been more than three months since their most recent one.
“I have Addison’s disease and I ended up in the hospital in October going in by ambulance cause I had COVID and so I had to get my medication for my Addison’s disease intravenously at the hospital so it’s quite a serious thing and yeah, if I can get that protection, I absolutely am going to,” said one Winnipegger CityNews spoke to.
Another saying, “Well, I can only say this: I do. I think they should, and leading by example, I am doing it.”
The vaccines are available free of charge at medical clinics, pharmacies, nursing stations, and rural public health offices. Manitobans can find a convenient location on the map published on the province’s website.
According to the province, starting July 1, COVID-19 vaccines will temporarily be available in special circumstances only, allowing for a three-month window before the start of the fall 2025 immunization campaign.
