Spring break has arrived in Winnipeg, and there’s plenty to do around town with the family, including a new lemur exhibit at the Assiniboine Park Zoo. Eddie Huband reports.

Spring break in Winnipeg kicks off this week with plenty to do around town with the family, including a visit to the Assiniboine Park Zoo, where you can enjoy a brand-new history tour and an adorable lemur exhibit!

“So, we have our lemurs here at the zoo. They’re brand new, and we’re very excited to have them,” said Jess Jonnesen, animal care professional at Assiniboine Park Zoo. “We’ve got four lemurs here: our male, Rusty, who is 11-years-old, and our three females: Lilly, who is 13; Ruby, who is 14; and Lazonia, who is also 11.”

The new exhibit can be found in Tucan Ridge, a tropical hut in the middle of the zoo, and it seems to be a hit with the kids.

“Yes, they are very popular,”said Jonnesen. “We’ve had a lot of people say they’re their favorite animal at the zoo right now.”

“We wanted to come check out the fresh air, see the animals, and get the kids out. Our little guy really likes to see the animals and have fun. He loves the playground inside, so yeah, we just wanted to get out and enjoy the nice weather,” said one local.

As exciting as the cuddly primates are, along with some of the other animals to take in at the zoo, there are plenty of other activities going on this week as well.

The Manitoba Museum, despite being under construction, is open all week until April 6th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring a new show at the planetarium called Voyage of the Stars.

A family of lemurs, new to the Assiniboine Park Zoo, is just one of the many things to check out in Winnipeg this spring break.
