A key Winnipeg Jets forward is set to miss significant time.
Gabriel Vilardi is out on a week-to-week basis due to an upper-body injury, head coach Scott Arniel told reporters on Monday.
The ailment is not related to the puck that struck Vilardi’s ear on Sunday against the Buffalo Sabres, Arniel added.
Defenceman Neal Pionk was also absent from practice as he continues to recover from a lower-body injury.
Vilardi, 25, has emerged as a key contributor for the Central-leading Jets, tallying 61 points (27 goals, 34 assists) in 71 games while playing on the top line with Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele.
Acquired in the deal that sent Pierre-Luc Dubois to Los Angeles two summers ago, Vilardi appeared in just 47 contests last season thanks to separate knee and spleen issues.
Winnipeg hosts Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals on Tuesday before welcoming the New Jersey Devils to the Manitoba capital on Friday.
The Jets lead their division by eight points over the Dallas Stars and sit second overall in the NHL standings with 100 points and a 48-19-4 record.
