Consultant to review Winnipeg’s housing development process with the goal of making it more efficient

The City of Winnipeg is vowing to improve its housing development process by launching a third-party review.

What the city calls an “end-to-end” review of every step of the process – from application to approval – will be undertaken by KPMG.

The goal is to make the process, which is part of the Housing Accelerator Fund program, more efficient and easier to navigate, the city says, and ultimately increase the supply of residential units.

“We want a development review process that works better for everyone: homebuilders, businesses, and residents,” said Mayor Scott Gillingham in a news release. “This is about making the process simpler, faster, and more customer-friendly so we can support new housing and grow our economy.”

KPMG is expected to present a report to the City of Winnipeg with findings and recommendations by the end of the year.
