Winnipeg police have made an arrest in a homicide investigation that began nearly three-and-a-half years ago after a 44-year-old woman was found dead in a central Winnipeg house fire.
The Winnipeg Police Service has long maintained Faye Sanderson, who was found dead on Sept. 21, 2021, was the victim of a homicide.
The say the fire at the home at 510 Young Street was “deliberately set and foul play was involved.”
Winnipeg police say a suspect – a woman who knew the victim – was eventually identified “after extensive efforts over the years.” A warrant for second-degree murder was obtained.
On Tuesday, the WPS homicide unit arrested 35-year-old Kendra Leanne Sinclair at the Edmonton Institution for Women in the Alberta capital. She was detained in custody.
“This investigation remained a priority for our service, and we recognize the ongoing pain it has caused the family and community,” Winnipeg police wrote in a news release Monday. “We appreciate and acknowledge the support from community members who have come forward with information, which has been invaluable in this process.”
Sanderson was a member of Mosakahiken Cree Nation who was living in Winnipeg.
