14-year-old boy arrested in connection with shooting in Winnipeg

A 14-year-old boy from Winnipeg is facing several charges after police say he was involved in a shooting in Winnipeg’s William Whyte neighbourhood.
On Feb. 19, at around 4:30 p.m. police were called near the area of McKenzie Street and Manitoba Avenue due to reports of shots being fired.
According to police, a group of people including two boys and several unknown suspects, visited a home in the 600 block of Manitoba Avenue. One of the suspects discharged a firearm toward the residence, and unknown individuals within the residence returned gunfire, police say.
Officers say at approximately 4:27 p.m., they located a victim, who is one of the youth suspects, in the 600 block of Pritchard Avenue, suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower body.
The victim was transported to hospital in unstable condition, and later upgraded to stable.
Shortly after, police arrested the other young suspect near Flora Avenue and McKenzie Street, a firearm was found nearby.
The 14-year-old boy has been charged with two firearm-related offences, as well as possessing property obtained by crime under $5,000.
Members of the Winnipeg Police Service’s Guns and Gangs launched an investigation one week after the incident in response to the ongoing drug trafficking and gang activity in the neighbourhood.
Police say on Thursday, investigators were sent to search the Manitoba Avenue home and executed a search warrant in response to continuing criminal activity at that location
One suspect was taken into custody and several items were seized, including a shotgun, drug paraphernalia, five rounds of shotgun shells, and around 25 rounds of .22 ammunition.
A 61-year-old man is facing several firearm and weapon-related charges. He was released on an undertaking.
The investigation is ongoing.
