Winnipeg police say two people have been charged and a third is facing a charge after a traffic stop led to the discovery of a man wanted on a warrant.
WPS says around 12:23 a.m. on Feb. 25, patrol officers conducted a traffic stop on a taxi after noticing some of its occupants were not wearing seat belts.
During the traffic stop, as officers were identifying those within the cab, they found that one of the men was breaching conditions of his curfew, while a second man was wanted on an active warrant.
Both men were taken into custody, and as they were removed from the taxi, officers reportedly noticed a firearm in plain view within the cab.
Officers secured the gun and confirmed it was a loaded improvised firearm (Zip gun) with a chambered .22 calibre round of ammunition.
WPS says as a result, a 25-year-old man has been charged with two counts of possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order, possession of a weapon, two counts of failing to comply with a condition order, and a warrant for failing to comply with a probation order.
A 33-year-old man has also been charged with two counts of possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order, possession of a weapon, and three counts of failing to comply with a condition order.
A 27-year-old woman is also facing a charge of possession of a weapon.
