Fire destroys millions of dollars’ worth of rare, restored vehicles in Manitoba

A fire last Sunday, in St Pierre-Jolys, Manitoba, destroyed more than a million dollars worth of rare, restored vehicles.

Within hours, years of hard work and dedication turned to ash. Jeremy Reimer, the owner of Re-spec Performance, a custom automotive company south of Winnipeg, could only watch as flames engulfed the shop.

The shop stored 10 cars that have been showcased at multiple shows across the country.

From his first car, a Mazda rx7 purchased when he was 17, to a gift built for his father, Reimer says the loss is a significant one.

“It was my wedding car, one of the other guys here lost his wedding car, the Chevelle that I restored for my father, almost all the cars here meant a lot to someone,” said Reimer.

Reimer says they are overwhelmed with the support they have received from both the local and wider automotive communities, and that they are determined to get back to their life passion of building and customizing cars.

“We got to get back on the world stage, I think that is the only way to move forward through it and not be stuck in the way it feels right now,” said Reimer.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
