Chilling daylight shooting in Winnipeg’s North End sends shockwaves across the city, just days after Winnipeg was officially ranked the most violent city in Canada. Mitchell Ringos reports.

A chilling daylight shooting that took place in Winnipeg’s North End on Wednesday, has sent shockwaves across the city, just days after Winnipeg was officially ranked the most violent city in Canada, according to a recent Fraser Institute study.

Video of the incident is circling on social media, and it shows a chaotic scene where two people, one armed with a gun, can be seen running through the streets before multiple shots rang out.

It took place around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, near Manitoba Avenue and McKenzie Street, sending one person to hospital in critical condition.

“With my phone in my hand, I decided to put in on record and I happened to catch the drama unfolding,” explained Tre Delaronde.

Delaronde has lived in the North End since he was a child. He shot the video from his home nearby, saying he heard a commotion, and leaned out his window to see what was going on, which is when he realized people were shooting a gun, so he spoke up.

“Just by yelling that should make them think twice about what they just did and what they will do next time. I’m sick of our people killing each other and hurting each other like this, something needs to be done in a positive manner,” said Delaronde

“It’s really disgusting to see this in broad daylight, especially during school hours.”

Delaronde says he wasn’t expecting the video, which now totals more than 1 million views across social media to go so viral, but hopes it can bring light to the ongoing issues in the area.

“It goes to show the people that this is what we deal with, and this is what the government has to be mindful of, that these people do carry guns in the hood, and they will shoot at anybody,” said Delaronde.

Winnipeg police say they are investigating the shooting and are asking anyone with information or video footage to come forward.

So far no details on a motive or charges have been released.
