A byelection will be held next month in a Winnipeg district left vacant by the passing of Manitoba’s education minister.
Premier Wab Kinew has announced a byelection in the provincial constituency of Transcona will be held March 18.
The Transcona seat was previously held by Nello Altomare, the former NDP education minister who died Jan. 14.

Elections Manitoba says advanced voting will take place at the local election office (100 Paquin Road) from March 8 to March 17, and the All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church (1500 Day Street) from March 8 to March 15.
Manitoba’s chief electoral officer will provide information in the coming days on polling locations, times, and more.
Voters will receive an information card in the mail, which will confirm if they are registered. Those who do not receive an information card can go to the Elections Manitoba website.
Under Manitoba law, a byelection must be called within six months of a legislature seat becoming vacant.
