The Winnipeg mayor’s Executive Policy Committee has approved a subdivision and rezoning application for housing on the Granite Curling Club parking lot.
The unanimous vote comes a week after a hotly contested hearing at a lower committee, which was deadlocked on the issue.
Using federal money, the project includes 111 housing units and would be located on a portion of the club’s west parking lot.
Board members and several curlers have raised concerns that eliminating the parking would threaten the future of the Granite Curling Club, which has served as the province’s unofficial home of curling for over a century.

The EPC did add an amendment that the city work with the curling club on a parking solution before any development permit is issued.
The matter now moves to city council for a final vote.
