Man charged following assault near Manitoba Museum

Winnipeg police says a 46-year-old man has been charged following an alleged assault Friday morning.
WPS says around 11:50 a.m., officers responded to Rupert Avenue near Lily Street after receiving a report that a woman had been assaulted.
Officers were informed that a 34-year-old woman had been walking in the area when she was approached and allegedly physically assaulted by a man. During the incident, the woman was knocked to the ground and continued to be assaulted.
Police note bystanders who were in the area and witnessed the assault did intervene, and moved her into a vehicle in an effort to protect her.
Following this, the man fled on foot towards Logan Avenue and Princess Street, where he allegedly kicked the driver-side door of a 2025 Porsche Macan, the allegedly tried to assault other pedestrians before other bystanders intervened.
The man was apprehended and was turned over to police around 12:08 p.m.
Police note the woman did not suffer any injuries and did not require medical attention.
Since 46-year-old Michael Andrew Lachance has been charged with assault, mischief, and failing to comply with a probation order.
