Visitor accused of passing meth to inmate at Stony Mountain Institution

By News Staff

Police say a Portage la Prairie woman was arrested for allegedly passing drugs to an inmate during a visit at Stony Mountain Institution last month.

Stonewall RCMP say the 30-year-old was observed on video handing over a suspicious bag to an inmate on Jan. 29.

Mounties say the visit was immediately stopped and the inmate was searched. Officers allegedly located a balloon filled with individual bags of methamphetamine – an estimated institutional value of over $29,000.

Latisha Lafreniere was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. She is scheduled to appear in court May 26.

An investigation is ongoing.
